ANCHAL- AT A GLANCE


Anchal is a village in Kollam District, Kerala. Anchal was particularly noted for its agricultural products. Pepper, ginger, cashew nuts, coconut, Arcanut, Tapioca, and plankton fruits were the major commodities that attracted attention from far and wide. In a report of the Development of Anchal gramapanchayath  it is written “the whole and various development of Anchal indebted to the decisive role that has been played by St. John’s College Anchal.”

Founded in 1964 and managed by the Major Archdiocese of Thiruvananthapuram (Malankara Catholic Church). In 1964, when the foundation stone of St. John’s College was laid at Anchal by the Late Archbishop His Grace Benedict Mar Gregorios OIC, MA., DD.Ph.L, it was yet another blooming of the soaring wings of vision and wisdom, on the post independent India, by the disciple of the great Archbishop Mar Ivanios- the founder of the Re-union MovementThe motto of the college is “Luceat Lux Vestra coram Hominibus" meaning – “Let your light shine before men”. The motto visualises the process of enlightening the individuals with wisdom and then it may be transferred to society in the dynamic frames of life.The formal order of the university to start Degree classes on the 18 th August 1967 and the B.A, B.Sc, B.Com classes were started on 22-08-67. The first Principal was Rev.Fr.Philip Pantholil.
